Boy soldiers of 'paradise'

Marching today, to the tunes of the autocratic ruler. Brainless.
I find it amusing to find young Maldivians, being trained for future jobs in the military.
A military that has no status outside of its immediete perimeter nor an enemy that it is capable of fighting. Proved only a few years back, by a boat load of Srilankan mercenaries who nearly toppled the regime under a two day siege. Indian paratroopers had to be called in for the rescue.

While brightly decorated uniforms, high ankled boots and leased ak47 rifles add spice to the show parades on various celebrative occasions... little is being done with their academic education. This school is currently struggling to setup its first ever computer lab with donations from well wishers.

  1. ..the tin soldiers of an ageing dictator suffering from delusions of grandeur...it is the sad reality that our children are faced today.

I can understand the ironic humour in seeing them but at the same time I find it tragic if what you say about this particular school is true. No doubt there are several other schools in the same boat.

    your photos speak volumes..

  2. The being of an Army is tragic... everywhere, everytime, anyway, this is Our World...and 'the ironic humor' is the best thing we do to exorcise life's aberrations.
    Amazing photos!
    And amazing landscapes!
