Mango season has arrived

It is not official. But i was delighted to find new blooms this morning. All over the island. Though not one of the most photogenic fruits in the island, it is my all time favorite. For its taste. And of the islanders. And the bats, which i can see the anticipation even now, by the tipsy way they are flying. An average tree is said to yield some three to five thousand, in any one of the two seasons in an year. This island has many trees.

Witnessing the drama of sky.
And the ocean... photos from lunch time ride with a friend, today. Exhilarating. No showers but strong wind and some light drizzling. Nice cool weather overall. Feydhoo island, north and south sides, 20 minutes apart.

Chess player scene from kudahuvadhoo island.
Time was during the aftermath of tsunami. This island housed many displaced people from nearby communities. While waiting for aid and proper plans to rebuild their lost homes, it is interesting to see these people absorbed in a game of chess.

The business of hospitality.
Bar manager(left), and rooms division manager... both live up to their names. At all times, given whatever task, these are the people behind efficiently run establishments of resorts and hotels. Motto: Keep customer happy.

Road alongside harbor sees many unusual activites.
This is the unlucky road that got in the way... of berthing boats from all over the country from sea, and the markets, the shops, the parks, the houses to inside of the island. Lack of proper planning in this island capital, led to a situation where this road is being used as loading/unloading, boarding/unboarding, hoarding/unhoarding... god. And a traffic congestion problem that at times is almost unbearable. A few hours later this same strip is being used by fishermen to... god.

Clock says 9.30. Brain says 5.30.
I have come halfway through the bulk of my current projects: 8 room house plan. Shop interior design. A friends website. And decorations for prize day event for the local school. As if these minor details in my life matter. The point is i have an important trip coming up, and these little details are whats holding me up.

ps. I have corrected a major typo error in flickr. It is now diary, not dairy as in cow liquid. Stupid me.

Passengers disembark at the male international airport.
Usually a 10 hour flight. There is one hotel in this island (yes, airport is one designated island), but the hotel is mainly for waiting tourists who cannot transfer to their resorts immediately. From here, a brief stop to clear formalities (visa) and proceed to receiving booths. Boats and sea planes are next in line, before arrival at your resort.

Banana is one of the most readily available fruit in the islands.
It is easy to grow and is almost entirely maintenance free. Shown here is the second most common variety of the three or four found here. The difference is minor and mostly due to the relative sweetness taste in each.

Role reversal on teachers day.
For one day, in an academic year, schools recognise the services of teachers by celebrating it amongst themselves. A day to let your hair down. Children watch amusingly, as many games and activities bring out real characters behind their, otherwise strict and boring teachers. Ghiyaasuddin school, male'.
