Hathifushi Island Evacuation
Life... from the last day of Hathifushi.
A small, isolated island from far North Maldives.
A population of around 150 were shifted to nearby Hanimaadhoo for resettlement.
The state of this islands' environment was pathetic.
Beach erosion, water pollution and land scarcity... were all challenges faced by the local people. But the main complain was of the sudden surge of swells and rush of sea water inland causing much damage to property, trees and inducing panic for the islanders.
Photos from 30 June 2007. People were evacuated the following day.

Flooded streets of Maaley Island

This is a pretty much common occurrence here. Largely because of the force of monsoon rains... and to some extent, the planning capabilities of the then construction Minister, Umar Zahir.
Nope, not from Bangladesh.
But sometimes I giggle as the pumps-men and fire lorries hastily go on about their business.

Around where I live...
Overview of Hopper's HQ.
1. In point form... because you don't like to read long paragraphs.
2. The island is moderately congested... with houses. But not enough people. Well 2,000 is not much... compared to 100K in Sin City. My second home.

3. There are 7 roads length-wise... but I usually take outside roads.
4. Main road in the centre is also interesting... but very distracting as there are always too many SBs around.

6. There are numerous stops in the inside... for bird watching, jungles and flowers.
