The Baikulhandhu story... part I
Part of the problem lies within the 'Baikulhandhu madhu vaane...' approach we have towards each other. No need to blame MTPB.

We all have it. Maybe it was the way we were fed and brought up. The 'beg and get' approch that has been so rigorously pushed by our parents or bosses or Governments. Or by our religion.
Part of the problem also lies in a sickness called selfishness.
True, people like Michael Friedel has made Millions ($) by selling off the beauty of Maldives. And God knows how many other photographers (non-maldivians) are out there trying the same thing. What else are they supposed to do anyway?
1. Sit at the Trends garden and write petitions against each other?
2. Or.., organise extravagant bbqs to see how many heads turn up for the event group photo?3. Or, waste time... looking up the internet for camera release dates?
Typical Maldivian habits. Habits that need to be broken, if we are ever to compete with 'foreign' photographers.
When Minister Nasheed came up with a proposed plan to help young photographers to launch their careers and help market their work as a unified group... the first things members of this group did was, start verbal fights with each other...
Fights over such meaningless small things, (on public internet forums, of all the places?) to such an extent, that potential donors and even possible clients, ran away.
Can we be more stupid? Can we be more Maldivian?
Besides... how much right do we have, to complain that somebody else has to have a hand over things even a monkey has brains to know that he has to do it by himself?
1. Take a good photo.
2. Market it.
3. Earn money from it.
My question is .. if you don't do it, 1 or 2 or 3, who else will do it for you, your mother?
Well, certainly not MTPB.
