Crows
In the island ecosystem, everything has a place. And everyone has a job. Some jobs can be normal. Some jobs are so odd, that it lacks mere definitions. Some jobs are so diligently undertaken, that jobbers become associated with trouble.
And ridiculed for their efficiency.
To the average islander, the crow is pest, at best.Ugh, that horrible voice.
And that ugly blackness. And those appalling table mannners, God.Islanders are very wary of the crows stealing habits.Even soap bars from bathrooms has to guarded with caution.Reason enough to see not a single bird being domesticated.
Life of the island crows are harsh, but they are highly functional, and exceptional at their job.
A dirty job, mind you, but someones got to do it.
Natures most efficient clean-up machines... coming.

Interesting post.
But why is 'blackness' associated with ugly? I think this is a Dhivehi attitude...(e.g. "Dhon dhon reethi reethi kujje" vs "maa ginain avee ga noolhey, kalhu vedhaane")
Do you think it's a cultural thing where whiteness is associated with purity, goodness, innocence?
I think black is beautiful.
And crows, annoying as they are has a beautiful simmering blackness, don't you think?
